We would like to invite you to participate
in the International Conference
“World from the Art Perspective, Art from the World Perspective.
Challenges of contemporary art education”
organised by the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń.
The conference will take place on 19-20 October 2017 in the Centre of Contemporary Art “Znaki Czasu”
and the District Museum in Toruń.
The conference aims to give an opportunity to exchange views, ideas, concepts related to broadly-understood artistic education and to integrate the community of people working in this field. It is addressed to theoreticians, artists, educators, teachers dealing with the issues of artistic education in all types of schools, working with different age groups. The speeches given by the participants will be published in the form of a conference proceeding.
During the discussion panels and within problem sessions and poster sessions, we intend to discuss the matters focused around three areas: World from the art perspective, Art from the world perspective, Challenges of contemporary visual education.
Our fields of interest will be, for example:
1. World from the art perspective
Art spaces; Contemporary recipient and his/her competence for art reception; Role of new media and technologies in shaping artistic practices; Image of world representation in new media; Artistic education and the issue of appropriation of reality by (hyper)media images.
2. Art from the world perspective
Status and functions of art in the post-modern world; Social and cognitive functions of art; Art and the challenges of the globalising world; New artistic phenomena; Art in the orbit of popular culture.
3. Challenges of contemporary visual education
Aims of contemporary artistic education; Artistic education and the status of work in art; Education within artistic schooling in the context of new cultural and educational challenges; New technologies in teaching children and teenagers and their learning in the scope of artistic education; Dilemmas of teachers of artistic subjects; Trisubjectivity (parents, child/pupil, teacher) in artistic education; Place of artistic education at different stages of education (from kindergarten to higher education); Role of universities and artistic universities in educational activities; Tasks and opportunities of artistic education in non-school areas; Access to lifelong learning in artistic education; Popular aesthetics as an element of artistic education.

The Organisational Committee comprises nine people, including two academic secretaries: dr Bernadeta Didkowska and mgr Joanna Cieślikowska.

Please send your conference applications by 5 September 2017 by electronic mail to: konferencjaZEA_UMK@wp.pl in the attached “Application form”. The application should provide the title of the speech and its abstract of up to 1500 characters containing the outline of the presented issue.
The conference fee is:
– PLN 400 (active participation)
– PLN 250 (active participation – students, PhD students)
– PLN 150 (passive participation).

The fee covers the costs of organising the conference, conference materials, publication of approved texts of active participants, coffee breaks, gala dinner. In the case of a joint speech, the authors must pay individual fees and fill in separate applications indicating co-authorship. In the case an applicant resigns from participating in the conference, the conference fee will not be reimbursed by the organisers.
